Solicitor Education Program Resources

Restoration & Support for You, Your Family, & Your Community

The Solicitor Education Program is committed not only to accountability but also to supporting long-term change. Below you’ll find resources to help you or your loved one take the next step toward healthier choices, stronger relationships, and a more positive future.

1. Self-Check & Awareness Tools

PATHOS Self-Assessment

At the Solicitor Education Program, we know that behaviors like sex buying rarely happen in isolation. They are often driven by underlying beliefs, compulsions, or unresolved trauma. Our mission is not only to hold offenders accountable but also to provide tools for awareness, reflection, and long-term change.

The PATHOS Assessment is a brief, evidence-informed screening tool designed to help individuals reflect on whether their sexual thoughts and behaviors may be moving into compulsivity or addiction. It’s not a diagnosis - but it can highlight when additional support or accountability may be needed.

Why it matters:

  • It highlights patterns like preoccupation, shame, loss of control, and harmful impact on self and others.
  • It is often used as a starting point in therapy and recovery programs.
  • Recognizing these patterns early can help prevent escalation and future harm.

Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Questionnaire

The ACEs questionnaire was developed by public health researchers to show how childhood trauma can influence adult health and behavior. SEP’s own research confirms that sex buyers in Columbus often report significantly higher ACE scores than the general population.

Why it matters:

A high ACE score is linked to addiction, mental health challenges, and maladaptive coping mechanisms.

Understanding ACEs doesn’t excuse behavior, but it explains patterns and underscores the need for trauma-informed intervention.

SEP integrates this understanding into its curriculum, helping participants make sense of their own histories while still being held accountable for their choices.

"I’ve been battling loneliness and depression. A few months ago, I found myself at rock bottom and made the decision to solicit. Thankfully, I was arrested and stopped short of making a horrible mistake... I now know I can move forward and raise awareness with dreams of ending this horrible issue."
